John J. "Soapy" McKay - October 9, 2004

John J. "Soapy" McKay, 83, of Oviedo, Fla., formerly of Minonk, passed away Oct. 9, 2004, at 2:15 a.m. in Winter Park, Fla.

His memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Minonk. Father Ray Guthrie will be the celebrant. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk, is handling local arrangements. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Minonk.

Jack was born July 21, 1921, in Minonk Township, a son of Thomas and Katherine Sunderland McKay.

Survivors include a daughter, Jill Clinton, Hinckley; a granddaughter, Caroline (Todd) Zbiden; two grandsons, Vince (Carol) Kramer and Tyler Kramer; two great-grandsons, Cory and Zachary Zbiden; and 15 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas and James McKay; two sisters, Mary Ellen O'Brien and his twin, Joan McKay; and a niece, Marilyn McKay Delaney.

His life was thoroughbred horses. He was owner and trainer of many thoroughbreds in the Chicago area. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oviedo, Fla, the Elks No. 1830 and the VFW Post No. 10733 in Orange Lake, Fla. During World War II, Jack served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot.
